St Gabriel’s Pupil Earns Recognition in Global Essay Competition

St Gabriel's Year 11 student Natasha has earned a Merit award in the prestigious John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition, standing out amongst nearly 35,000 entries from over 150 countries.

Her essay, titled "When is Compliance Complicity?", was shortlisted in the Politics category, putting her work on the global stage.

The John Locke Institute competition is renowned for challenging students to tackle complex subjects across Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and History. It's a unique opportunity for young minds to showcase their research and writing skills.

Reflecting on the experience, Natasha shared, “To begin with, I didn’t know a lot about the concepts the question presented, but I was interested, and it was a great opportunity to learn about them... I had zero expectations going into the competition, so I’m excited my essay was shortlisted out of so many!”

Natasha was invited to the Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner on 21 September, held at the prestigious Grosvenor House in Mayfair, London, where she received her Merit certificate.

St Gabriel’s Principal, Mr Ricki Smith, expressed his pride in Natasha’s achievement, saying, “We are incredibly proud of Natasha’s outstanding achievement. At St Gabriel’s, we encourage our students to rise to the challenge, voice their opinions, and make the most of every opportunity. Natasha has embodied these values through her hard work and dedication, and this recognition is well deserved.”

Congratulations to Natasha on this incredible accomplishment – we’re excited to see where her talents take her next!
