Year 1 Travel Back in Time at Milestones

On Tuesday 22 October, Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke.

Immersing themselves in living history, it was the perfect way to consolidate the children's learning about the History of Toys. Throughout the day, they experienced playtime in the past through active participation with a range of old toys and games, comparing the museum's toys with toys of today. The children enjoyed time-travelling through the old winding streets and shops. They took part in two workshops which involved investigating toys of the last 100 years as well as traditional games. Highlights included playing Hopscotch in a Victorian street scene and enjoying and introduction to tiddlywinks. The joy of living history is that children continue to be fascinated that their grandparents and great-grandparents entertained themselves by playing these games in the past. The shop continues to be one of the most exciting memories of our trip, with pocket money to spend and a wonderful choice of toys to buy!

Mrs Ryder, Mrs Webb and the Year 1 team were very impressed by our young historians' excellent behaviour and interest in their first trip of the year.
