Year 7 Milly Excels at Youth Climbing Grand Final
St Gabriel’s Year 7 pupil, Milly D, showcased her incredible talent and determination at the Youth Climbing Series (YCS) Grand Final 2024, held on 23 and 24 November in Leeds.
This prestigious event, hosted by the British Mountaineering Council alongside Mountaineering Ireland and Mountaineering Scotland, brought together the best young climbers from across the UK and Ireland.
The competition featured the top 24 climbers from each region, who qualified based on their performances in the YCS Regional Rounds. Competing against the elite from England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, Milly delivered a fantastic performance, placing 20th overall and 17th on the lead climbing discipline.
What makes Milly’s achievement even more remarkable is that, as one of the youngest in her category, she was up against competitors as old as 13, many of whom had a significant size and strength advantage.
The Grand Final took place at the Big Depot and Depot Leeds Armley, where Milly’s hard work, focus, and resilience were on full display. She represented both her region and her school with distinction, making her achievement in this demanding sport even more impressive.
Congratulations to Milly for her outstanding performance! We look forward to following her climbing journey and celebrating her future successes.
