Head of Outdoor Education Achieves Paddleboarding & Carbon Literacy Credentials

We are delighted to celebrate the recent achievements of Catherine Cockar, our Head of Outdoor Education, who has completed assessments in both Paddleboarding and Carbon Literacy.

These qualifications mark an exciting step forward in enhancing the outdoor education and sustainability programs at St Gabriel's.

Catherine is now a certified PaddleUK Paddlesport Leader, having undertaken a rigorous training course in Bude followed by an assessment on the stunning Fowey Estuary. Her preparation included journey planning, weather and tide analysis, and rescue techniques, equipping her with the skills needed to lead safe and engaging paddlesport sessions. This qualification will allow Catherine to run paddleboarding activities on the school’s lake, offering pupils the chance to explore this increasingly popular sport while developing their confidence and outdoor skills.

In addition to her paddleboarding success, Catherine has completed a Carbon Literacy Course and assessment in collaboration with Kew Gardens. This certification underscores her commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability and climate action within the school community. The Carbon Literacy Project promotes awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, inspiring individuals and organisations to make informed, eco-conscious decisions. Catherine’s training will enable her to guide pupils towards creating a more sustainable future through education, reflecting her dedication to both outdoor education and environmental stewardship. We look forward to seeing her new expertise in action, empowering our pupils to enjoy the natural world while understanding their role in protecting it.

Congratulations, Mrs Cockar, on these fantastic achievements!
