Sixth Form Maths Challenge
On Monday 12 November, 4 Sixth form students went to Highdown School, Reading to take part in this year's UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge. This encourages reasoning, logic, deduction and the use of basic techniques to solve a variety of problems. The teams worked through three challenging rounds including an initial group question stage, a crossnumber and a shuttle round. The group round involved 10 questions which the team had 40 minutes to solve, deciding on their own strategy with regard to working in pairs, individually or as a group. The crossnumber split the team into pairs and is similar to a crossword but with numerical answers. The final challenge of the day was the shuttle, where the teams were competing against the clock to answer a series of four questions. Our team were complimented on their team work and quick thinking and were thrilled to finish 5th out of 24 schools.
Well done to Katherine, Isobel, Connie and Rowan .
