Year 12 Product Design Practical Work
Following theory work covering the topics of the performance characteristics of woods as a material and also the manufacturing processes available to shape and form a product manufactured in wood, Connie was tasked with making a wooden product using traditional techniques. The stool is manufactured from solid oak. Connie was required to implement batch production techniques to produce the 3 identical legs and she utilised a range of practical skills to mark out, cut and form the component parts. The legs are attached to the central hexagonal component with dowel joints and a coach bolt has been used to secure the legs to the table top. She routered a bevelled edge to the table top and applied a wax finish to ensure that the end product looked professional and commercially marketable.
