Junior School Takes Flight for Big Garden Birdwatch
This morning’s Junior School assembly celebrated the upcoming Big Garden Birdwatch, which runs from 24th to 26th January 2025.
The Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey, inviting nature lovers to spend one hour observing and recording the birds that visit their garden, balcony, or local park. Participants are encouraged to report everything they see—even if no birds appear! Results can be submitted online or by post to contribute to this vital national survey.
To kick off the excitement, pupils in the assembly competed against School Principal Mr. Smith in a bird identification challenge. Using soft toy birds, the two sides tested their knowledge to see who could correctly identify the most. The verdict? As the photo reveals, the pupils (represented by the tally on the left) soared above Mr. Smith's count (on the right), showcasing their impressive skills!
Every pupil taking part in this year’s Birdwatch will receive a special 2025 Big Garden Birdwatch badge. They are already buzzing to get started.
Want to get involved at home? Spend an hour between 24th and 26th January spotting and recording birds, then share your results with the RSPB. Visit the RSPB’s website for more information: Big Garden Birdwatch 2025.
