The Addams Family
St Gabriel’s took to the stage at Arlington Arts on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 March to perform the senior school performance of The Addams Family directed by St Gabriel’s school head of drama Ruth Chaplin. During the performance the audience were taken on a gothic journey through central park before being welcomed by the oddities of The Addams Family.
We saw the love story of a ‘crazy’ Wednesday and a ‘normal’ Ohio boy, Lucas, while watching Gomez the ultimate family man being torn between loyalty to his daughter and his wife. The student’s performances were exceptional. They showed dedication and commitment throughout the rehearsal process right up until the final curtain. Emily Hamilton, Year 11, who played Gomez performed to an exceptional standard, showing her talent across all three art forms. Rachel Berkley, Year 10, played the strange and hilarious Uncle Fester which proved to be a firm favourite with the audience offering witty jokes and excellent comedy timing while Alice played by Molly Montague, Year 11, held the audience’s attention with her witty poems, fabulous singing voice and love of the colour yellow.
Throughout the show the audience witnessed a wide selection of talent across the school. The year 7 dance troop performed in a light and shining moon dance as well as a variety of other highly professional choreographed dances by Mrs Hastings the schools head of dance that complimented beautifully the emotion on stage, while the girls of St Gabriel’s band played alongside our very talented Dr Tebbs to deliver the entire score of this well-known Gothic tale to an exceptionally high standard.
‘It was fabulous, I felt like I was in the west end’ , ‘The cast and band looked and sounded like professionals’, ‘My children haven’t stopped singing since’
