Ancient Egypt Day!
To mark the centenary of Howard Carter’s discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb, Years 4,5 & 6 took part in a special Ancient Egypt Day.
To start the day off, we came into school in our costumes. Our whole day was based in the sports hall, and a nice lady came in and showed us lots of fun tasks, recreating what they would have done in Ancient Egypt. Some of the activities were perfume making, soap carving, bread making, and mummifying. Some of our favourite tasks were: Soap carving and perfume making. We learnt lots about Pharaoh Akhenaton and Queen Nefertiti.
After lunch, we were sent off into lots of different groups, doing different activities. The activities were: doing the dance of the Nile, performing multiple acts, and we even had some children being slaves, serving everyone else snacks. The parent helpers were acting like ancient Egyptians to really put us in the story. Some were even pretending to commit Egyptian crimes, such as worshipping a different god, and poisoning the pharaoh, and blaming it on the slaves. They even nominated six children to become Queen Nefertiti (Ember), Pharaoh Akhenaton (Alia), Queen’s food taster (Annabelle), High priest (Helena), and the secret police.
Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.
