Year 9 Sustainability Challenge at Tesco

On Monday 25 November, Year 9 students embarked on a meaningful and exciting Sustainability Trip to Tesco Extra in Newbury.

The challenge? To make every penny count while supporting a vital community cause.

Split into two teams, the students were tasked with spending £10 per group, to purchase as many essential items as possible from a list provided by the West Berkshire Foodbank. With a time limit to navigate the aisles, the activity felt like a real-life game of Supermarket Sweep! But unlike the TV show, the goal was to make a tangible difference for local families in need.

The winning team managed to secure the most groceries for their budget, but the real victory lay in the lessons learnt along the way. The trip offered students a first-hand understanding of the challenges families on tight budgets face when shopping for essentials.

This activity not only highlighted the importance of thoughtful spending but also demonstrated the power of teamwork and the impact of giving back to the community.

Well done, Year 9, for making a real difference while gaining valuable insights into sustainable living and financial awareness!
