Celebrating Valentine’s Day Across St Gabriel’s

Love, creativity, and kindness were in the air at St Gabriel’s this week as pupils across the school, from Nursery to Seniors, took part in a variety of Valentine’s-themed activities.

In Nursery, our youngest children embraced the spirit of the day with hands-on fun. The babies enjoyed a ‘cooking’ session, making delicious Valentine's chocolates with Shannon—though there was plenty of attempts at mid-way taste-testing! Toddlers got crafty with painted hand bouquets and cards, while pre-school made scrumptious Valentine’s cupcakes to share.

Moving into Juniors, the children put their artistic skills to the test. Reception practised their handwriting by writing heartfelt messages inside beautifully decorated cards. Year 1 crafted intricate tissue-paper heart cards, while Year 2 took inspiration from Banksy, creating modern-art-style Valentine’s pieces. Year 4 had a blast designing adorable "kindness monsters" following Rob Biddulph’s popular #DrawWithRob. Year 5 experimented with mixed-media heart paintings, using newspaper and watercolours to create stunning designs.

In Seniors, the celebrations took on a creative and historical twist. Year 9T led a special Valentine's-themed assembly, complete with a fun "Guess the Love Song" quiz. Meanwhile, Year 11 delved into the origins of the holiday, crafting Lupercalia cards—an homage to the ancient Roman festival that may have inspired some of the romantic traditions associated with St Valentine’s Day.

It has been a wonderful way to round off the half-term, filled with laughter, learning, and creativity. We wish all our pupils and families a restful and happy Half Term Holiday!
