Guinea Pigs Delight Year 1 During Special Visit
Year 1 pupils were thrilled to welcome some very special guests today: Dora, Twinkle, Cookie, and Annie—four adorable guinea pigs brought in by Hana, the mother of Robyn C from Year 1.
Hana, who works with Cuddly Cavies, treated the children to an interactive and educational session about guinea pigs and their care.
Cuddly Cavies is a company renowned for delivering award-winning therapeutic visits to care homes, schools, and community groups. Their sessions provide hands-on experiences that encourage fine motor skills, cognitive recall, and sensory engagement, as well as teaching foundational pet care. Hana’s visit tied perfectly into Year 1’s Science topic on animals, particularly mammals.
The pupils eagerly asked questions and impressed everyone with their growing knowledge of mammals, learning fascinating facts about guinea pigs’ habits, diets, and grooming needs. There was no shortage of excitement as the children enjoyed cuddling, feeding, and interacting with their furry friends.
Staff members were equally taken with our fluffy visitors (as the pictures reveal!).
Year 1 teacher Mrs Webb remarked: “Hana’s visit with Dora, Twinkle, Cookie, and Annie was a fantastic way to bring our Science topic to life. The children were completely captivated, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and engagement.”
As the photos show, smiles were in abundance, and the visit left a lasting impression on everyone. St Gabriel’s would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Hana and Cuddly Cavies for making learning so much fun!
