On Friday, 28th February, a team of 10 enthusiastic Year 6 and Year 7 pupils from St Gabriel’s travelled to Bristol to take part in the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, an exciting global STEM competition designed to inspire young minds and develop key skills for the future.
The competition challenged pupils to work as a team to design, build, and program an autonomous LEGO® robot capable of completing a series of real-world-inspired missions. Across three intense rounds, the team had just 2.5 minutes per challenge to navigate obstacles and earn points. In addition to the robot challenge, they were tasked with developing an innovative solution related to underwater exploration, which they then presented to a panel of judges.
After impressing with their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, our St Gabriel’s team was thrilled to be awarded the ‘Breakthrough’ trophy for Best New Team! This fantastic achievement reflects their dedication and hard work since September, as they developed their robot and honed their presentation skills.
A huge congratulations to Daniel B, Alex C, Alex H, Reuben M, Zachary M, and Natalie W in Year 7, and Viraat B, Henry C, Sophie CS, and Isaac S in Year 6. The team had an unforgettable experience, learning valuable lessons and picking up plenty of tips to take into next year’s competition.
Well done to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see what you achieve next year!
