Year 4’s Stunning Tudor Houses Bring History to Life!

Year 4 pupils at St Gabriel’s have amazed us all with their incredible model Tudor houses, created as part of their History Learning Topic on the Tudors.

These intricately designed, hand-crafted black-and-white beamed houses were a true labour of love, with each one showcasing a unique and imaginative take on Tudor architecture.

The project was set over half-term, giving pupils time to design, build, and decorate their models at home. The results were truly spectacular—some houses were impressively large, others featured real thatched roofs, and a few even had interiors with miniature furniture, model people, and animals, as well as beautifully manicured gardens!

As part of their Tudor studies, pupils have explored life in Tudor England, learning about monarchs like Henry VIII, Tudor fashion, food and its origins, and even the punishments criminals faced under the strict law and order of the time. They also discovered how houses in the Tudor era were emblems of wealth and status, with features such as exposed wooden beams, steep gable roofs, tall chimneys, and decorative half-timbering—many of which are still seen in homes today.

The Tudor period played a significant role in shaping British culture, from its architecture and cuisine to its powerful rulers. This hands-on project has truly helped our Year 4 pupils step back in time and understand the importance of the Tudor era in a creative and memorable way.

A huge well done to all our budding historians and architects—your hard work and creativity have brought history to life in the most impressive way!
