Senior Pupils Excel at Greenpower Heat
Senior School pupils recently showcased their engineering skills and racing prowess at the Year 7-13 Greenpower heat held at the renowned Goodwood Motor Circuit. The event, organised by the Greenpower Education Trust, aims to inspire young minds in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) through the exhilarating world of motorsport.
Participants in the Greenpower Challenge are tasked with designing, building, and racing electric cars, either using supplied kit cars or constructing their own vehicles according to regulations. This hands-on approach to learning allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting, fostering a deeper understanding of STEM concepts.
Despite facing strong competition from schools across the region, St Gabriel's pupils demonstrated remarkable skill and determination. In the initial race, our teams secured impressive rankings, with placements of 17th and 26th out of 58 competing cars.
The Greenpower Challenge not only provides an opportunity for students to engage with STEM subjects in a dynamic way but also cultivates essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and project management. By participating in events like these, our pupils are not only racing towards the finish line but also towards future success in their academic and professional endeavours.
