Year 7 Explore the Wonders of Roche Court Sculpture Park
Last Thursday, our Year 7 students spent a day immersed in art and nature at the stunning Roche Court Sculpture Park.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, the pupils were treated to a unique experience, studying an array of 3D artworks, many of which are displayed outdoors in the natural environment. They delved into discussions about the different materials used in the sculptures and the meanings behind them, gaining a deeper understanding of how art interacts with nature.
A special highlight of the trip was the opportunity to handle a unique sculpture by the world-renowned artist Barbara Hepworth, giving the pupils a rare hands-on experience with a piece of art history! They also spent time sketching the sculptures that captured their imaginations, refining their artistic skills while exploring different perspectives.
You can read more about the trip from the students in their own words:
'I had such a lovely time today. The art and sculptures were amazing and my favourite piece was the semi-abstract umbrella. The landscapes and views were wonderful, I would really love to go again. It also made me enjoy photography and drawing much more than I did before.' (Martha).
'I loved some of the more abstract pieces at Roche Court, they were very colourful and really made me stay and observe what was really in front of me. The plates were beautiful, especially the one with the lips and nose sketched onto it.' (Emmeline).
'Delightful, fascinating sculptures and a wonderful sunny time. Roche Court put the abstract into art. From the variety of art styles to the colourful sculptures of Olivia Bax, I had an absolute blast!' (Felix)
The interactive tour led by Amanda was a great hit with the students, sparking lively conversations and plenty of creative inspiration. It was a day full of discovery, learning, and fun, and we look forward to more artistic adventures in the future!
