St Gabriel’s is proud to announce that we have been awarded the Equal Access School Plaque from the Barclays Girls' Football School Partnerships, in recognition of our commitment to providing equal access to football for girls.
This prestigious award, presented by The Football Association (FA) and Barclays, celebrates schools that ensure all girls have the opportunity to participate in the national sport, both within the curriculum and through extracurricular activities.
In a letter from Baroness Sue Campbell DBE, Women’s Football Director at the FA, she acknowledged the vital role that schools play in making football accessible to all:
"England Women continue to inspire a nation after being crowned European Champions in 2022 and lobbying their government. They ensure that all girls can dream of one day being a Lioness by having the opportunity to play at school. Thank you for making this a reality."
St Gabriel’s is one of only a handful of local schools to receive this recognition, alongside secondary schools such as John O’Gaunt, St Barts, Denefield, Kennet, Willink, and Theale School. The award reflects our ongoing commitment to equal access to sport, ensuring that both boys and girls can take part in football from Year 7 through to Year 13 in the Senior School. This ethos extends to our Junior School, where pupils are encouraged to explore all sports, from football and rugby to cricket and beyond—breaking down traditional gender barriers.
We are delighted to display our Equal Access School Plaque and continue championing opportunities for girls in football.
At St Gabriel’s, sport is for everyone, and we will continue to provide an inclusive and inspiring environment for all our students to thrive.
