Mandarin Drama Workshop
On 27 January, Year 8 ad Year 9 Mandarin beginners enjoyed a special Mandarin Drama Workshop. Mrs Chaplin equipped the workshop with her professional drama techniques, while Ms Zhang provided linguistic support. Students managed to put their drama and language skills together in a short time-span of two hours and did a fabulous performance for Year 3, who were really impressed by how well the play was performed and the level of Mandarin knowledge the senior students possessed.
The play was adapted from the traditional legend of Nian monster who was scared away by the wisdom of village people using firecrackers and the colour red. The script was tailor made by Ms Zhang to reinforce Year 8 and Year 9’s speaking skills on the topics they were studying: food, colour and rooms. The students found it a fun and interactive way to learn language and to develop their drama skills at the same time.
The workshop blended elements of culture, language, drama and dance, and remained unforgettable for students.
It was really fun because we had lots of props and costumes, and the story was very creative and inspiring.
