Year 6 Explore Nature at Ewhurst Park
As part of Science Week, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed a fantastic trip to Ewhurst Park near Baughurst, where they explored the wonders of Spring through a series of outdoor activities.
During the visit, pupils learnt about the vital role of pollinators such as bees and butterflies, and even had the chance to plant their own bean plants. One of the highlights of the day was the earthworm survey, where pupils investigated different types of worms and their important role in soil health.
Although there wasn’t enough time to visit the resident beavers, Year 6 had a memorable morning packed with hands-on learning and fascinating discoveries.
Sofia Clare (Year 6) shared her thoughts on the experience:
"It was very exciting, and we all loved it! Everything we did there was intriguing and fun. When we arrived, the team were so welcoming and friendly. On our walk through the forest, we stopped by a huge bug hotel — it was amazing to see so many insects living there! We also spotted some primroses, and one of the Ewhurst staff members surprised us by eating one! Some of us tried one too, and they were surprisingly yummy.
Next, we discovered a tree with a pipe and tap attached — it was producing tree water! We had a taste, but not everyone was a fan.
Later, we visited Ewhurst Park’s outdoor classroom, where we learnt about animals in spring, soil, bees, and earthworms. We planted our own beans, which was really fun, and then went digging for different types of worms. Luckily, we found plenty. The whole trip was amazing!'
A big thank you to the team at Ewhurst Park for making the visit so memorable — what a fantastic way to celebrate Science Week!
