Art and Spanish Students Explore the Rich Culture of Barcelona

From 17 to 20 October, our Years 10 to 13 Art and Spanish pupils embarked on an inspiring trip to Barcelona, immersing themselves in the city’s rich artistic heritage and vibrant culture just before the half-term break.

The adventure began on Day 1 with the group’s arrival and a visit to the iconic Parc Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. Students marvelled at this masterpiece of Modernist architecture, showcasing Gaudí’s unique artistic vision.

Day 2 took the pupils to Girona, where they enjoyed a self-guided tour of the mediaeval city centre. Highlights included the impressive Cathedral and the Basilica of Sant Feliu, followed by a visit to the historic Arab Baths, which date back to 1194. In the afternoon, the group explored the Tomàs Mallol Collection at the Cinema Museum, dedicated to the history of film and moving images. The day concluded with a visit to the Dalí Museum, celebrating the work of the iconic surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.

On Day 3, the group visited the magnificent Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s unfinished basilica and a symbol of Barcelona. After taking in breathtaking views from the towers, pupils enjoyed a trip to the Picasso Museum, home to an extensive collection of the artist’s work, including pieces from his Blue and Pink periods. Later, they explored Poble Espanyol, an open-air museum that recreates 117 buildings from various regions of the city.

The evening culminated with a spectacular performance at the Tablao de Carmen, where the group experienced the passion of traditional flamenco dancing while enjoying a typical Catalan dinner.

On the final day, pupils wrapped up their trip with a visit to Camp Nou, where they explored the FC Barcelona Museum and enjoyed panoramic views of the iconic stadium.

All in all, a jam-packed trip and a fantastic time had by pupils and staff alike. The trip provided our students with invaluable experiences, deepening their understanding of art and culture while creating lasting memories. We look forward to more exciting educational trips in the future!
