Year 11 Explore A Levels in Inspiring Taster Day
On 28 November, Year 11 pupils at St Gabriel’s immersed themselves in an engaging A Level Taster Day, designed to introduce them to the breadth of subjects and opportunities available in the Sixth Form.
The day featured a series of hands-on workshops and thought-provoking sessions across a variety of subjects. In Biology, students delved into the science of cell plasmolysis, conducting experiments using onions, to observe and understand this fascinating process in plant cells. Philosophy encouraged lively debate on “universals,” exploring deep questions such as 'What is Justice?', challenging perceptions and broadening critical thinking skills. Psychology introduced new concepts, sparking interest in how the human mind works and how behaviour is studied.
Creative flair was on full display in Art and Textiles, where pupils explored their artistic potential by designing and crafting stunning outfits, combining technical skill with imaginative design.
Adding a technological edge to the day was a special presentation by Chris, a Microsoft employee and valued mentor in the Sixth Form Microsoft Mentor Scheme. Chris shared his personal career journey, offering valuable insights into the evolving tech landscape, the role of AI in education, and practical tips on using tools like Microsoft Co-Pilot to enhance learning and productivity.
Throughout the day, pupils demonstrated exceptional engagement and enthusiasm, taking full advantage of the chance to explore potential future pathways.
Head of Sixth Form, Hannah Trevis, commented: “It was wonderful to see the Year 11 pupils engaging with A Level subjects and thinking ahead to their future studies. Our A-Level Day is a great way for pupils to see first-hand the exciting opportunities that await them in the Sixth Form.”
The taster day is an invaluable part of the St Gabriel's Seniors experience, leaving students inspired and motivated as they look toward the next step in their academic journey.
